Brainwaves and God (Part 3)

Part 3 of Brainwaves and God is now up at Integral Naked.

An integral approach to how brainwave technologies might affect stages of growth is the following: brain-mind machines induce changes in brain states (Upper Right), which are correlated with changes in states of mind or consciousness (Upper Left). Repeated changes in states of consciousness accelerate growth through the stages of consciousness.

IN Thread: Email from Michael Hutchison

Below is a quote from an email from Michael Hutchison posted on the IN Forum (i've added the Google hyperlinks for convenience). Check out the whole thread. Centerpointe has a very good response.

I have much to say about the holo sync process, none of it good. Among other things I suggest you look up on internet such words as Beta brain waves head injury brain damage (that would be one search) and also kindling effect brain. Also brain wave hypersynchrony and brain damage. these are just a few the starting points.

Ottmar on Holosync

"I have been listening to a Holosync CD for a few weeks and have to say that I am not impressed with the quality, because of drop-outs and such, and when they do use music, I find it terrible and impossible to listen to. The idea itself is intriguing and, I think, further validated by this item above. Also interesting is the conversation between Bill Harris and Ken Wilber - you can find it on I-N or at the Centerpointe site."

Bill @ UN

Bill Harris will be speaking @ The UN Values Caucus. Sweet.

If you live (or plan to be) in the New York area on Thursday, November 4, 2004, I'd love to meet you.

As you know, I've been invited to speak to the United Nations Values Caucus on November 4th. A key member of the UN Values Caucus is a Centerpointe participant, knows of my work with beliefs and values, and invited me to address the caucus.

Brain Waves and God (Reloaded)

Part 2 of Brain Waves and God is now up at Integral Naked.

Bill begins the conversation by recalling some of the initial experiences he had while experimenting with the binaural beat in the late eighties. While using this audio technology he had five weeks "of the most intense satori that you could imagine." But after that period, the binaural soundtracks started to lose their potency and the experience faded—a major bummer. Bill proceeds to explain the steps that he and his colleagues took to remedy this situation and attempt to make brain-mind technology more successful in the long run.

Some interesting threads about Bill Harris on Integral Naked. Not everyone is psyched about Centerpointe. This is good.

Holosync Thread @ Integral Naked

There's currently an active (and intelligent) Holosync thread happenin' on the Integral Naked Forum. The discussion was sparked by Brain Waves and God. Check it out... and join the fun.

Brain Waves and God

Bill Harris, creator of Holosync is this week's featured guest on Integral Naked. In a dialogue entitled, Brain Waves and God, Bill Harris and Ken Wilber talk about the "states and stages in the brain-mind."

The conclusion of brain-mind research to date therefore suggests the following: technologies such as Holosync can help one induce brain states (such as theta-alpha), which normally would take many months to achieve using meditation alone. The induction of brain states (in the UR) is accompanied by the correlative mind or consciousness states (in the UL)—e.g., alpha brain states with relaxed-alert consciousness states. Finally, repeated exposure to altered consciousness states helps one develop through consciousness stages. Stages, as usual, cannot be skipped, but repeated induction of brain states and correlative consciousness states appears to accelerate growth through the various stages.
Speaking of brain waves, check out the famous EEG machine recording,
...where Ken enters various meditative states, one of which is a type of "thoughtless," "image-less," or "formless" state, whose correlate is that his brainwaves come to an almost complete stop, as clearly recorded on this portable electroencephalograph (EEG) machine. (This video is discussed in One Taste, April 10 entry.)
Holosynchronicity it is. Weird.
